“facing seven years in prison”
For TRYING to steal wheels? WTF? Some random guy could steal my car, I wouldn’t wish him 7 years in prison. I guess he is not a very good swimmer...

It’s all about the situation.

The truck fell on the brake rollers...
Bummer. I don’t even know where to even find replacement brake rollers.

The intent’s the same, why should he get a lighter sentance just be cause he wasn’t good at it?
![]() 06/21/2016 at 22:59 |
|
Because this is not a banana republic and people who commit murders and rapes often risk less?
![]() 06/21/2016 at 23:31 |

Risking less than 7 years for murder? How so?

Federal law states that voluntary manslaughter should receive “fines, a prison sentence of not more than ten years or both.”
So yes, sentences of less than 7 years for voluntary manslaughter are very common in the US on the federal level. It’s even worse in some states like California where “Voluntary manslaughter is punishable by imprisonment in the state prison for 3, 6, or 11 years.”
So a country where trying to steal wheels can get you the same amount of jail time as voluntarily killing somebody needs to get its shit straight.

1st, manslaughter isn’t murder, and 2nd, it sounds like they’re risking 10+ years.

huh? A voluntary manslaughter is a 2nd degree murder. A murder without premeditation. (ie: someone cuts you off in traffic, you get mad and kill the guy.)

That’s the maximum sentence. Odds are he’ll get much less than that.

Maybe, but the mere fact that he COULD get this much, is in itself, ridiculous. I’m also pretty sure some judges love to give years and years in jails for petty thefts like this.
